.Q: Why did you start the U of T Ballroom Latin Dance Club? A: Ballroom dancing has been cited as the single leisure activity most strongly correlated with protection against Alzheimer’s disease (Verghese, et all, 2003). It is also a great extra-curricular. Harvard, UPenn, and MIT all have their Ballroom and Latin clubs and hold competitions as a university. U of T has just been ranked as the best university in Canada, so why shouldn’t we have our own ballroom club? Verghese, Joe, et al. "Leisure activities and the risk of dementia in the elderly." New England Journal of Medicine 348.25 (2003): 2508-2516. Q: Do you need experience or a partner to join? A: No to all. We expect to have more beginners than advanced students. Even if you can’t tell your left foot from your right, you can still join, because we will teach you how to dance gracefully. Q: Do you need to be a U of T student? A: No. The Ballroom Latin Dance Club is also open to the general public, non-U of T students, and non-students. Q: How do I dress for the classes? A: You may dress however you like, provided you can dance easily in them. Q: How often do you have classes? A: We have classes every week, usually on Fridays. Please check our classes and schedules for the times. Q: Where do you hold your classes? A: We hold classes at various locations on campus, e.g. the Fitness studio space at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. This information is also listed under classes and schedules page.
